What It Is
What Is A Good Age To Start My Child?
he best time to take your child to the dentist for their first checkup is usually around the age of 3 or 4. It’s not easy to know how they’re going to react, so Dr Mark Chung (Dentist) will take things slow. If we need to keep it fun and lighthearted where they simply sit in the chair and play a bit, that’s fine. We’ll work at their own pace!
We aim to address dental issues early, to keep treatments simpler. Services like small fillings are placed with numbing medication to ensure your child’s comfort at all times.
How Will You Interact With My Child?
As we break the ice and create a lighthearted atmosphere, it will help your child be more willing to have their teeth examined, cleaned or even worked on if needed. From counting their teeth to giving them a little tickle, we keep your child involved so that they feel in control of their checkup. When we put pictures of their teeth up on the screen, they can help “diagnose” what’s going on with their smile!
Most dental problems are preventable. When we develop a relationship with your child from a young age, they get to experience preventative dentistry in a positive light. As their risk of painful dental emergencies is reduced, they will associate dental care with something pleasant, rather than intimidating or scary.
How Often Should I Schedule?
As with adults, it’s best to schedule a checkup every six months. We’ll monitor any changes in their teeth so that issues can be intercepted early.
Dental Sealants: As adult molars start to erupt — around the ages of 6 and 12, respectively — Dr Mark Chung will recommend sealing the deep grooves on their chewing surfaces. Sealants help block out the acids and bacteria that cause cavities, so that your child can be more efficient in their home care. Sealants only take a few minutes to apply, so we can add them onto your child’s checkup visit once their teeth are ready.
Orthodontic Evaluations: As part of your child’s regular checkup, Dr Mark Chung will screen for any irregular bite patterns or jaw development. If issues are spotted, we may recommend early interceptive orthodontics to limit the severity of other orthognathic issues in the future.
X-rays: Low-radiation digital radiographs help us pinpoint concerns that can’t be seen visually. For instance, impacted teeth, cavities or cysts are just a few things that Dr Mark Chung will want to screen for as your child grows.
How To Take Care Of My Child's Bite?
Helping your child enjoy their trip to the dentist’s office can diminish fear or anxiety about dental care in the future. Since healthy teeth start at a young age, we focus on preventative strategies that lower your child’s risk of common dental problems.
It’s important to have a guardian accompany all children up to age 16, in the event that any treatment decision need to be made.
Same as adults it is important that they keep brushing and flossing twice a day.
About Children's Dentistry
Dr Mark Chung is definitely no stranger to kids, whether he is blowing up his gloves to make balloons, reading them stories from the waiting room books, or joining in to watch cartoons on the TV. He finds it essential to ensure that your kids feel at safe and at ease when visiting our practice.
Looking For
Through routine checkups and cleanings, we can help your child form good oral hygiene habits that result in fewer cavities and emergencies. Dr Chung also incorporates preventative dental sealants and fluoride to reduce your child’s chances of tooth decay.
By scheduling regular checkups every six months, we can assess your child’s smile for early warning signs of decay or impacted teeth. Treating such issues early helps minimise the treatment required to correct them. Through modest white fillings or space maintenance, we can help your child’s adult teeth develop in a healthy, natural manner.
